It's been hip to do "alternative stagings" of classic operas for years now -- Orpheus as a mental patient, Don Giovanni as a street punk. Now, New York's City Opera is giving the plot of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor a scandalous twist -- in order to accommodate the lead soprano, a nice mormon mom who's six months pregnant.
