I missed the segment on Letterman, but Wonkette brought me up to speed: apparently The Late Show ran a segment called "President Invigorates America's Youth," in which they showed this poor 13 year old kid, standing directly behind the podium during a presidential speech, yawning uncontrollably. At first, CNN reported that the White House claimed it was doctored footage--that the boy wasn't really at the speech, or was standing somewhere else, or something. That spin unraveled slowly and embarrassingly, with CNN then claiming that, in a rare moment of Jayson Blairesque delusion, they had come up with it on their own, without any input from the White House. The rundown on the Late Show website claims, however, that someone at CNN did verify that the "doctored footage" line came from the White House (of course).
My own sources have since reported rumors that, in light of the recent birth of his son, and a threatening phone call from Dick Cheney, David Letterman is quitting the show to "spend more time with his family."

Who would have guessed that the greatest chellenge to Bob Becker's title as world xylophone champ would come in the form of a three-year-old Korean girl? posted by Grimshizzle
